Lydia Charmaine Lourdes also known as LIDYA (born 23 June 1994) is a Malaysian singer, songwriter, record producer and music video director She started singing at a really early age and always had a passion for music. Raised by a single mother while withstanding difficult circumstances of life, music was always her getaway. Her siblings were her inspiration in music and she first started singing in Church. She participated in numerous singing competitions in both school and state level and at the age of 12 she was the first runner up in a Disney Singing Competition that was aired on television.
LIDYA started songwriting at the age of 14 and some of her musical inspirations include Avicci Rihanna and Beyonce. In 2015, Lydia posted a cover of a song by Rihanna which caught the eye of a few major labels in Malaysia. She was invited to perform for a music festival in Kuala Lumpur alongside other artists across Southeast Asia. Her live performance created buzz and she was invited to perform in New York City including “Celebrate Brooklyn” , “The Novotel Manhattan” and “The Coney Island Music Festival”. She has been performing in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia for years and performed for some major events like Miss. & Mrs. India Worldwide Pageant in Malaysia, The Lake Gardens Music festival and The Pink- Wig-A-Thon Stand up for cancer event in Malaysia.
In 2016, LIDYA faced a tough decision to give up her scholarship in university to pursue music full time and spent the next 3 years as an independent artist. She spent her time also practicing on her craft and working alongside songwriters in Berklee College of Music in Boston. In 2017, Lydia released her first single Gone and worked in Los Angeles with different producers and songwriters. Lidya has worked with world-renowned choreographer, Richy Jackson who has worked with (Priyanka Chopra, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry)
After her first commercial release of “Gone” and “BADASS”, she has been featured on Spotify editorial playlists including Spotify Asia New Music Friday, and Pop Remix Playlist, which was placed right above Charlie Puth. She was also featured on Malaysia’s English Top 10 charts on Hitz FM, Malaysia’s leading English-language station.
LIDYA’s third single “Where’d you go” is her most successful single release yet as it gained mainstream attention by attaining over a million streams on Spotify, which was played in 65 different countries and 500 thousand fans worldwide. LIDYA has not only written all her music but also co-produced and directed all her music videos.
In 2019, LIDYA was invited to Atlanta, Georgia to be a vocalist and songwriter for a soundtrack of a film called ‘A walk by Faith’ that is set to be released in year 2022. LIDYA’s passion for music, fashion and dance stretches her potential far past the radio waves. These collaborations between the United States and Southeast Asia are important to the long term vision she has created which is to bridge the gap between Southeast Asia and the U.S.
With a style that ranges from tropical to deep house to electro-pop, LIDYA is gifted with vocals that display a firm command of pop banger thermodynamics. LIDYA’s accomplishments lead her to be awarded a grant from The Cultural Economy Development Agency (CENDANA) in Malaysia. LIDYA is slated to release her first single in her native malay language called “Acha Acha” which she plans to release across all platforms in Southeast Asia.
